A Living Landmark
This magnificent big leaf maple (Acer macrophyllum) is a true giant of its species. Its trunk, thick and sturdy, rises with the quiet confidence of a tree that has witnessed decades of seasons at Cedar Rise. The enormous leaves — the largest of any maple species — turn brilliant gold in autumn, carpeting the ground in a rustling blanket.
Wildlife Haven
The Big Maple is a thriving ecosystem in itself. Its branches host a variety of birds throughout the year, from the resident jays and chickadees to seasonal visitors. Squirrels race along its limbs, and the rough bark provides habitat for countless insects that in turn feed the bird population.
Through the Seasons
In spring, clusters of yellow-green flowers attract early pollinators. Summer brings full, lush foliage that provides welcome shade. Fall transforms the tree into a beacon of gold and amber. And in winter, the bare branches reveal the tree’s impressive architecture against the gray Pacific Northwest sky.
